ふしぎの海のナディア (Nadia: Secret of Blue Water)

In 1889, the world is on the pinnicle of great discoveries in technology. Jean Ratlique, a budding inventor, met Nadia, a young girl working in a circus with a mysterious past. Together they embarked on an adventure that will reveal Nadia's past, and possibly her future...

Created in 1990 by GAINAX, based on the Novel '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' by Jules Verne. A movie was produced as a sequel in 1991. A brand new PS2 game is coming in September 2005.

Originally I watched the movie version first, back in 1991 when one cinema in Hong Kong showed the movie, plus Gundam F91 as a doubleheader. (That cinema, at the time, was the first in Hong Kong for only showing anime, and subsequently it was closed a few yeas later due to lack of profit...)

Nadia (1990 - 1991)
39 episodes TV series

It is one of the best show done in the early 1990s, a good story, funny characters, with plenty of comic relief, romance, action, and best of all, cool "ships"!! I still enjoy it after 15 years, even with a crappy, unrestored footage on DVD from ADV Films.

It is the first show on my website that I will recommend to all ages!

ふしぎの海のナディア 劇場用オリジナル版 (1991)
The movie

Originally the TV series ends with a future Marie telling events among the survivors 20 years later, so we all thought the story ends there right? No, GAINAX went ahead and made a movie of it. Set 3 years after the event of Red Noah, Jean and Nadia came together again to stop another mad man from world dormination.

A nice follow up on the TV series for cashing in...
