青空少女隊 (801 T.T.S. Airbats)

When Isurugi Takuya got his assignment to the 801 Tactical Training Squadron as a fighter mechanic, he is in for a wild ride. Not only the squadron is a all-female team ran by a in-your-face Captain Konishi Mitsuru, it is also known as a dumping ground for the unwanted of the JASDF. Sandwiched (literally) between the gun barrels of the 2 top pilots, Haneda Miyuki and Mitaka Arisa, Can Takuya manage to survive in order to help keeping the squad from disbandment? Meanwhile, both Miyuki and Arisa developed feelings for Takuya, which means trouble at the base...

801 T.T.S. Airbats was originally produced as a 3-episode OVA in 1994 and 1995, which later extended with a 1-episode special in 1996, as well as a 3-episode OVA sequel. ADV Films released all 7 episodes in a 2 Disc DVD collection, which I have a copy of it. Interestingly, as of April this year, ADV removed any links related to this title from their website. It is not clear whether ADV decided not to renew the license, or some mixed up on their site. If there are any changes I will update in here.

The series is based on a manga series, which unfortunately I have never come across one. So I will skip the review on that.

Link: None that worth mentioning. The series is licensed by ADV Films for North America

801 T.T.S. Airbats (1994 - 1996)
7-episode OVA series

It is a nice series, with enough drama and silliness to make this show one of the more enjoyable shows from the 1990s. I actually watched it once (the first 4 episodes only) when I was in Hong Kong.

The 2nd OVA series continues when an American fighter squadron was sent in for a joint exhibition with the 801 girls, and things did not go smoothly for them. The last episode is actually a flash-back story on Captain Konishi Mitsuru on his relationship with Saginomiya Sakura, now his right hand "woman" in the squad.
